The average lifespan of a tetra fish is between three and five years, depending on the species and care. Some species, such as the cardinal tetra and the neon tetra, usually live around four years. Other tetra fish can even reach six years of age under optimal conditions.

Do you want to keep your tetra fish healthy for as long as possible? Then pay attention to the following factors:

• Water quality – Keep the pH value between 6.0 and 7.0 and prevent ammonia spikes.
• Nutrition – Offer a varied diet with both dry food and live or frozen food.
• Group size – A tetra is a schooling fish and feels safer and less stressed in a group of at least six tetras.
• Avoiding stress –Avoid aggressive fish as tank mates and ensure there are plenty of hiding places in the aquarium.
